Maybe that is you right now. It would be easy to respond with anger and doubt during difficult times, but God in his grace uses these times to bring us closer to him for his glory and our good. It is during these times that we need to be constantly reminding ourselves of who we are in Jesus. One of the greatest quotes I have ever read was this...." The problem with your spiritual depression is that you spend too much time listening to yourself and not enough time preaching to yourself." We as followers of Jesus should be preaching the gospel to each other everyday.

I found this article very encouraging and helpful. I trust that you will find it the same. One of my favorite old dead guys is a man by the name of J.C. Ryle. He was a preacher in England way back in the day (19th century) who loved Jesus and his Word. He like all of us was a wicked sinner who was saved by grace through faith in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. I believe God uses him here to help and encourage us as we grow in our relationship with God through reading, studying, and marinating on his Word. Read it and enjoy it!

The truth was that I was trying to get there by myself and was placing my worth in other things instead of who Jesus is and what he's done. It is easy as followers of Jesus and even false followers of Jesus to get caught up into religion instead of the glorious truths of the gospel of Jesus.

Here is a great article that I trust God's Spirit will use to do work in you. Check it out and ask yourself the questions, Where do I stand? Which one am I?

Sun, 15 Jan 2012 16:24:48 -0800 Verses to marinate on http://ignitemylife.com/verses-to-marinate-on http://ignitemylife.com/verses-to-marinate-on Hey friends,

Have you ever wondered if there was an app to help you memorize God's Word? Well there is! It is called the fighter verses app. It is a really helpful tool. This past week's portion of God's Word was something great to marinate on. It is from Romans 10:12-15. Here is what is says...

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

These verses share with us that God rescues those who cry out to Jesus in faith  for the forgiveness and rescue of their sins! The reality is that apart from the Spirit opening up our eyes to this, we will not respond. The beauty is though that as God's Spirit opens our eyes to see who Jesus is and what he's done, we respond in faith. This should bring comfort to us as we think about the truth that God saves us through Jesus when we call on him. Verses 14-15 then challenge and encourage us as Jesus' followers to rep HIM by telling others about him! This means that God has rescued us to glorify him by living for and telling others about Jesus.

Think about the implication of that. God has chosen to use us as his followers to get his message of restoration and redemption out there. He is the one who saves, but he uses us to get his message out. So as you go through this week, ask God for captain obvious opportunities to share him and pray for boldness and grace to share who he is and what he's done. Then when God uses you, let us know so we can pray and rejoice once again for who Jesus is and what he's done!

REP THE KING. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

Thu, 01 Dec 2011 08:28:20 -0800 Thought for today http://ignitemylife.com/thought-for-today http://ignitemylife.com/thought-for-today Good morning friends,

I came across this verse and thought I would share it with you today. It is from Proverbs chapter 25 and verse 25. It reads, "Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country."

Here is what I love about this verse. Everybody knows what it is like to have a nice cold glass of water after you have been working, playing, or exercising. It feels so good and refreshing going down and it revives you. That is what good news does to someone who needs and longs for it. The reality for us is that the best news in the world is the message of the gospel: God became a man. He lived a life of perfection earning good works for us. He died on the cross in our place judging our sin. He rose from the dead to show that he is God and that sin has been taken care of. There is no better news than that.

That is why today be praying that God will rescue peeps from every nation for his glory and their good. Be praying that God will give you opportunities this season to share that news with people who are thirsty and needy and don't even know it. Jesus said in John 6:35 that the one who comes to him will never hunger or thirst spiritually. What he is saying is that only he can satisfy a thirsty and empty soul. Is your soul satisfied in Jesus? If it isn't, run to him asking for forgiveness and help to find your satisfaction in him. If he is, continue to pray that God will ignite your heart every day to live and share the good news of Jesus.

Tue, 22 Nov 2011 10:49:22 -0800 Thanksgiving http://ignitemylife.com/thanksgiving http://ignitemylife.com/thanksgiving For many of us, this time of year is the best. We see family and friends. We enjoy food together. We give and exchange gifts. All of these are memories that we build each year. These memories we look back on with fondness and we look forward to all the new ones that we will share. In the midst of this, it is easy to forget the God who in his grace has blessed us with this abundance.

The truth is that we all deserve God's judgment and should not enjoy any of his blessings from his common grace (creation, health, job, stuff, food, etc) to his saving grace (rescue from our sin). The amazing reality is that because of God's grace, we can and do enjoy these things. In light of this, let's remember this Thanksgiving to thank the one who has provided all of it: God. Let's also remember the most important truth to be thankful for: The gift of his son. 2 Corinthians 9:7-15 shows us that we are to give to others in light of who Jesus is and what he has done in giving up his life for his glory and our good. Each and every day we should remind ourselves of the fact that we have been rescued from our sin by Jesus and his life, death, and resurrection. As a result, our lives should be characterized by thankfulness to God and we should seek by his grace to display and share that to other peeps that God brings our way.

So this Thanksgiving and each day take some time to thank God for all his blessings, most notably for who you are in Jesus.

Mon, 14 Nov 2011 08:45:00 -0800 Thoughts to Marinate On http://ignitemylife.com/thoughts-to-marinate-on http://ignitemylife.com/thoughts-to-marinate-on Hey friends,

Last night at "The Gathering" our friend Trent Navarro shared with us the reality that sin and death have been defeated by Jesus' life, death, and rising from the dead. This means that because of what Jesus has done to rescue us from our sin, sin's penalty and power has been removed and we will spend forever with God in extreme eternal satisfaction and joy. While we still have sorrow over death and sin, it is different for us now because we know that Jesus has conquered and that one day both sin and death will be removed forever.

In light of this amazing reality, our response should be to represent Jesus with our words, thoughts, and actions. Our desire should be to serve Him and persevere in our faith because we know that God is rescuing a people for His glory and that sin and death have been defeated and will be removed forever one day!!

Here are some verses that we pray will encourage you as you marinate on these truths!

Mon, 10 Oct 2011 12:20:26 -0700 Something to marinate on http://ignitemylife.com/something-to-marinate-on http://ignitemylife.com/something-to-marinate-on I was reading Psalm 119 last night (I read the first 40 verses) and I was impressed with how much God talks about the importance of His Word. The main reason why His Word is so important is because it tells us about Jesus. Jesus is the living Word (John 1:1, 14) and He has given us His book to know Him in a personal way. This is why getting into God's Word so it can get into you is huge.

Psalm 119:9-11 says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you, let me now wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you"

The only way to live this way is through trusting in Jesus for who He is and what He has done to rescue us from our sin through His life, death, and resurrection. Because He has given us His Word, we should get to know Him in it. That is why we have been studying Mark. With that in mind, let me remind you that when you come on Sunday's and Wednesday's to Ignition and Ignite, the goal is for you to have read the passages of Scripture and have the questions answered. We then will go over them when we meet. For instance, you should be reading Mark 4:1-35 for this Wednesday and answering the Wednesday questions in your book. Then for Sunday you should read Mark 4:35-5:43 and answer the questions for Sunday.Make sense? It's all designed for you to grow in the grace and knowledge of your Savior (2 Peter 3:18).

Please know we are here for you peeps and are praying for you. If we can encourage you in any way, let us know!

Tue, 04 Oct 2011 09:44:14 -0700 Sin and The Savior http://ignitemylife.com/sin-and-the-savior http://ignitemylife.com/sin-and-the-savior Hey friends. I am not sure about you, but for many of us don't fully get the horribleness of our sin. Sometimes we have the idea, "I know it's a big deal, but everybody does it". Everybody doing it shows us how BIG a deal it is. As a result of our sin, we are headed for judgment and separation from God forever. Now if the story ended there, it would be an epic fail. But thanks be to God for sending Jesus to live a life earning goodness for us, dying for our sin, and rising so our sin could be paid for and we would be made right with God.

Please take the time to read this interesting article about the reality of our sin and the amazingness of our Savior. Click here.
